A61(s) Bus Priority Corridor - Changes to Leathley Road, Sayner Road and Chadwick Street
Improving the bus network and developing park and ride sites, is an important part of their plans. Giving buses priority along key routes will make journeys quicker, easier and more appealing, helping to tackle congestion, air quality and health issues.
Connecting Leeds will be writing to residents and businesses to advise that over the coming weeks works will commence to facilitate the closures of Sayner Road and Chadwick Street (at their junctions with the A61 Hunslet Road) and the removal of right turn movements from the outbound A61 Hunslet Road into Leathley Road.
These changes will help to reduce delays experienced by all traffic, including buses, along the A61 Hunslet Road.
For Sayner Road and Chadwick Street traffic alternative routes are available via South Accommodation Road, Clarence Road and Carlisle Road. For Leathley Road traffic an alternative route has been introduced by a new u-turn facility at Brookfield Street. Diversion drawings are shown below.
Temporary closure of the dedicated right turn from the outbound A61 Hunslet Road into Leathley Road from 29 June for 2 weeks.
Temporary closure of the dedicated right turn from Leathley Road into the A61 Hunslet Road from 6 July for 2 weeks.
Permanent closure of the dedicated right turn from the outbound A61 Hunslet Road into Leathley Road from 27 June.
Permanent closure of the dedicated right turn from the inbound A61 Hunslet Road into Sayner Road from 12 July.
Permanent closure of Sayner Road at the junction with the A61 Hunslet Road from 25 September.
Permanent closure of Chadwick Street at the junction with the A61 Hunslet Road from 25 September.
A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order for the temporary closures has already been granted by Leeds City Council, which comes into effect from 29 June 2020.
